Purpose, Process and Benefits of Accreditation

TESOL Arabia conference, March 13-15, 2008, Dubai Men’s College, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

There is growing interest in accreditation in the Middle East. In this session, presenters Mark Algren, University of Kansas, and John Herlihy, Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi, explained the philosophy that underlies accreditation by explaining the elements of the process, and the benefits that accrue to programs that undertake the process. Both presenters coordinated the accreditation of their English language programs by the Commission on English language Program Accreditation (CEA).

CEA is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education as a reliable authority on the quality of instruction and services provided by accredited English language programs and institutions.
